5K Training Begins and Steele Blvd. Workout for 10K/Half/Full
The 10K/Half/Full Marathon runners will get their workout explained and then we will meet with the 5K runners.
5K – we’ll have a brief information meeting and meet your coaches. The 5K group will have a few experienced runner specifically assigned to them.
We are going to really start easy with a half mile up and down shady Kleinert. If you feel like it you can do it twice for 1 Mile.
STRENGTH WORKOUT IN THE HILLS – the idea of using short hills is to start developing leg power and get your heart rate up. Again the idea is not to necessarily “Sprint” up them but to “power” up them like you would do in a longer race. The Steele hill is in the full Louisiana Marathon.
Lean slightly into the hills from your ankles – not your waist, look to the top of the hill – not down at the ground and take slight shorter steps for more ground contact/force.
3 Miles – warm up to the bottom of the hill on Chatfield. Run uphill 2 x 220(cone to cone) jogging back down for recovery after each. Ease over to Steele Blvd. hill. Run uphill 2 x 220 jogging back down for recovery after each. Cool down back to SJA.
4 Miles – warm up to the bottom of the hill on Chatfield. Run uphill 4 x 220(cone to cone) jogging back down for recovery after each. Ease over to Steele Blvd. hill. Run uphill 4 x 220 jogging back down for recovery after each. Cool down back to SJA.
5 Miles – add a mile to your cool down in the Hundred Oaks neighborhood.
**Bring your wallets because we will have several races out at the run offering super deals and discounts.
