Who’s ready for FREE 10K training?

Here’s some info about our training and some links to keep on hand for information, run locations and times, social groups and how to strengthen that core!

It’s that time of year again! We are entering 10K training mode! We will have a brief informational meeting on Thursday, February 16 before our run for everyone interested in our FREE training leading up to the Crescent City Classic. If you are a beginner, come on out and meet some of our regulars and pick up a 2 week base-schedule to get you prepared for our March 6 kickoff! We work hard, but have fun!

Am I a beginner?

Can walk/run at least 1 mile with the intent on finishing 6.2 miles

Recommended gear: great new pair of running shoes and a stop watch or GPS watch

Stop by either our New Orleans location (3450 Magazine St.) or our Old Metairie location (115 Metairie Rd.) and our experienced staff will make sure you are set up for success!

What will a beginner week consist of?

4 days a week of running/walking

(including: 1 day of intervals / 1 day of EASY miles / 1 day of tempo and strength / 1 longer run)

Longer weekend runs will progress from 2-6 miles over the 8 weeks

Intermediate = been running a while – looking to pick up or get faster/stronger

Experienced = seasoned runner / racer – looking for speed and strength workouts

5 days a week of running

(including 1 day of intervals / 2 days of EASY miles / 1 day of tempo and strength / 1 long run / ++choice of core workouts)

CORE WORKOUT BONUS TO TRAINEES:

Our friends at higherpower studio [ cycle • yoga • TRX ] have offered our training group a “CORE” special 6 week TRX suspension training class rate. 6 classes for $48, roughly $8 a class (normally $16 our drop-in rate). We will be taking sign-ups through March 6 but if you plan on training with Varsity Sports, email Mark@higherpowernola.com to get on their special training roster.

STAY IN THE KNOW!

All runs and workouts will be posted weekly so if you can’t make one, grab some friends and do the workouts at your convenience.
