Rio Taco’s Downtown Marathon course work
333 Third Street
Rio’s is a new downtown restaurant owned by Chad Hughes of Bumsteer and Ivar’s. They will have special offers for the group.
Let’s use tonight for a little work but more pacing and mental rehearsal. We need to exercise our home field advantage.
READ CAREFULLY: the workout below is basically – 1 x 1/4 at race pace; 2 x overpass half at relaxed race pace; 1 x 1/4 at race pace. 4 x 50 yards(city blocks).
Easy warm up around the back of the Capitol and wind your way to 4th where the starting line is.
At the turn on to North Blvd and 4th there will be a cone to start of a 1/4 at race pace. Feel the rolling hills and practice relaxing going out the first mile.a cone at 9th will mark the end of the 1/4.
Jog easy to overpass. Run over it at relaxed, race pace. Shorten your stride, lean slightly in, look to the top of the hill, and breath slowly through nose and mouth. I try to remind people to Yoga Breath uphill. The thought is your mind is “no extra effort uphill”.
After the overpass run easy to 19th(the race turn) and back to bottom of the overpass going back.
Run back over it at relaxed, race pace. Shorten your stride, lean slightly in, look to the top of the hill, and breath slowly through nose and mouth. I try to remind people to Yoga Breath uphill. The thought is your mind is “no extra effort uphill”.
Run easy to same 1/4 on North Blvd, going back. Focus on a strong feeling and steady race pace. Rolling North Blvd. is a challenging finish!!
Turn the corner on 4th. Run pickups from street light to street light until you get to the finish line. Practice feeling and finishing strong.
SPECIALS FOR RUNNES AT RIO TACOS. $2 ground beef, chicken tinga or al pastor pork tacos. We have $4 rocks margarita and $5 frozen house margaritas
